Carroll Gardens is the only neighborhood

where I can take midnight walks

and still hear my footsteps.

-

At this point in my life I miss more people than I have around.

this is when I start living in memories and dreams,

because all of my friends and family are all together there,

in the depth of my mind and past, still alive and well.

letters from july

-

I’ll try to smile sometimes

but then the absurdity of being here catches up again

and what I thought was “now”

turns into “would have been”.

-

I drink gin with the same vigor

as I used to drink water

when I was a child.

Have my father’s alcoholic genes

finally caught up with my brain?

-

I tried learning about your future,

but you were only the product of past.

-

You shield children of yours from true sun

and dripping water of the upstairs AC unit.

you are a bird

but still more human than many.

-

Summer arrived with

brightness

golden heat

blooming pomegranates

and sandy swimming suits,

Abandoned on the railing

of an old Brooklyn house,

in the exhaustion and haste

of lives lived fast.

-

I write for people

who'll never read.

-

You know what really hurts my heart?

You talk to me like I’m only in your past.

but I am here

I am here now.

I am always here and always now.

-

I’m sketching our rain again.

-

I’m not as fragile

as you imagined,

not as broken

as I thought.

-

Take me wherever you took all your thoughts

after getting rid of me.

-

Hunger is more all-consuming than anxiety.

you’ve just learned how to avoid it better.

-

I take stupidity as my only god-given talent.

-

Collecting fingers in my mouth.

have more?

-

What a stupid idea to share them with you.

all strawberries came to be for me!

-

Toys were your friends

and my gifts to loneliness.

-

Laying on the skin of dead horses,

I could smell wilderness of thoughtless speed.

-

Hands are my vision and hair is my balance.

-

You were a payment for whatever I didn’t pay for.

Well worth it.

-

I might look like a ghost,

but I have feelings like a living boy.

-

You know nothing about writing,

but you lived in a careless, romantic,

Bukowski way,

drunk and smitten with your own existence,

this world belonged to you.

you were beautiful for that.

-

For whatever reason,

you appeared and my life again started.

-

I’m running through the phases of my life

like halls of the Met -

drunk with beauty

and ever shifting love,

never lingering too long,

scared of the closing hour.

bufo afterthoughts (august 7)

-

Did you know that if you smoke long enough

nicotine will eventually make you shit

and that's how you get him out -

shit by shit

you get him out.

-

I put my cigarette in a flower pot

like you started,

and this lonely new “ash-tray”

now relies on me to feed it.

-

you're mad that I cancelled on you?

do you know how many times I thought about you that fucking weekend??

-

You know that light you gave me for my birthday?

That “light fixture”, you called it?

Sometimes it flickers when I light it

and the first thing I think

is if it only flickers

when you think about me..

or is that because every time it does

that stupid dance with the darkness

I think about you

and I hope you think about me too.

Were you even real?

I don’t question if what we had was real.

I know it was.

but I question your existence.

did I make you up in my head?

-

I still haven’t read “Alice in Wonderland” you gave me.

I’m kind of scared that if I do,

you might be out of my memories then.

and I finally think about you all the time again.

I’m sorry I got carried away with life

and left you away and alone

by that river of my life.

I promise I still love you

and think about you always.

I even do coke now because of you.

-

You know,

after a while

you're not “hot”

when you’re sad.

You’re just an old man

with a broken heart

who’s ugly

and unloved

and all you have

is your past.

and that’s when the

future starts.

-

I never want this cigarette to finish

because I promised myself I would be in another universe by then

and I’m not ready

-

Broke a glass on my fucking fire escape

don’t go in there

-

Take a sip

Take a bump

Take a little bit of everything

That life gives you

“Sup”

Take a nap

Take a shit

Take a little bit of everything

That life gives you

“Neat..”

Take with ice

Take without

Take a little bit of everything

That life gives you

“Nice”

Be a fool

Be an ass

Take a little bit of everything

That life gives you

“Cool”

-

“Grass is always greener on the other side”…

Bruh,

grass don’t even grow ova here 🤙🏻

Paris recommendations for Saba

Restaurants

Café Méricourt
https://www.cafemericourt.com/
22 Rue de la Folie Méricourt

Plan for a wait, especially on the weekends. But it’s worth it! Mellow digs, fantastic brunch and coffee (and fresh-pressed juices!). Just go. It’s a perfect spot in a great neighborhood.

Le Grenier de Notre Dame
https://instagram.com/legrenierdenotredameparis?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=
18 Rue de la Bûcherie
75005
The first vegetarian restaurant in France, opened in 1978. It’s very good, with many vegan options as well. Try the tartare d’avocat appetizer and the assiette berbère. Reservations recommended.

Le Petit Olivier
80 Rue du Cherche-Midi
75006
A tiny, funky spot. The food isn’t remarkable, but the menu is diverse, tasty, and inexpensive (as Paris goes), the atmosphere is cozy, and the place seems to attract a younger crowd.

Museums and Galleries

Musée Montmartre
https://museedemontmartre.fr/
A fabulous, small, underrated museum. It’s a wonderful dive into the Montmartre of the late 19th-century—think Toulouse-Lautrec, Le Chat Noir, and Erik Satie. A particular highlight is the recreated studio (and nearby works on display) of Suzanne Valadon, a late-19th/early 20th century painter who is starting to gain the recognition she deserves. (She also lived in the house her recreated studio now occupies.) There’s also a nice little restaurant where you can eat al fresco in the garden in good weather.

Almine Rech Gallery
https://www.alminerech.com/contacts-page
64 Rue de Turenne
75003
Worth keeping an eye on for shows of fabulous contemporary artists.
